I graduated from the University of Georgia with a
bachelor’s degree in Social Work. While a student at Georgia I
interned at the Department of Family and Children Services. I also
had an internship with a local elementary school as a school
counselor.
After graduating from Georgia I moved to Spartanburg, South
Carolina where I worked at SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition as a
victim advocate. I worked with women and children who were survivors
of domestic violence and sexual assault (I did so many things while
there it is too many to name in a short description). I worked at
SHRCC for almost three years when I decided to go back to school to
get my Masters.
I attended the University of South Carolina in the Social Work
program. While at USC I was a student intern for SHRCC as a
therapist working with women and children survivors of sexual
assault and domestic violence and The Children's Advocacy Center
working with children who were survivors of sexual assault.
After graduation I got my South Carolina Social Work License and
became a LMSW. I was hired by Greenville Mental Health as a school
based counselor. I worked in the schools, providing therapy for
children who were clients of Greenville Mental Health. This included
working with parents, teachers, and administrators in assisting
children reach their goals. I also worked with coordinating summer
camps at Greenville Mental Health, as well as, group and individual
therapy. I worked there for about two years, when I adopted my son.
Soon after my son was born I accepted a job with Hospice of the
Carolina Foothills. I am a medical social worker. Most people say,
what is that? Well, I do a little bit of everything. I work with
terminally ill patients, their families, and (if they are in a
facility) the facility staff. Assessing needs of the patient and
family. Assessing and monitoring emotional and mental status. Also,
assisting with finding resources that best meet the needs of the
patient and family. I have been with Hospice for about 16 months.
I am excited to volunteer with Upstate Parents Network and to be
coordinator for the new youth group.
