Early-onset depression is a brain disorder that affects the way
a child thinks, acts, and responds. It is marked by periods persistent sadness,
withdrawal, irritability, poor self-esteem, inattentiveness, and frequent
physical pains. If left untreated it could cause school failure, alcohol and/or
drug use, and even suicide. Depression is a treatable condition.
