The Childhood Bipolar Disorder Book
We are all anxiously awaiting Tracy Anglada's new book. Below is
sneek peek from The Childhood Bipolar Disorder Answer Book (coming
August '08) Chapter 6 Learning and Development Question 2. What
Areas of the Brain May Show Abnormalities in Childhood Bipolar
Disorder? Most of you are familiar with the downloadable handout
"Brain Abnormalities Associated with Bipolar Disorder." When this
document was developed there were very few brain imaging results
unique to children with bp so the document broadly covered
abnormalities that have been associated with bipolar disorder in
general. For our new book, The Childhood Bipolar Disorder Answer
Book, Dr. Hakala and I revisited this important aspect of the
illness using only studies done that were specific to childhood
onset. In this way we hope to reflect the most specific and up to
date information. We poured over study after study to compile the
data. Thanks to a suggestion from our editor, we also put it into a
format that will help teachers and parents easily see the function
of each area of the brain affected. I have to say that I am proud of
the results (and tired from the work)! In fact, I'm so excited that
I couldn't wait to share this info. Even though there may be future
editing changes, I got special permission from our publisher
Sourcebooks, Inc. to make this pre-release version available to
you!! It is a fabulous document to take to teachers in order to
demonstrate the physical nature of the illness. Please download and
print your copy today...and share the knowledge!
